Biographical Information

John H. Haley, was an Arkansas lawyer. He was born May 29, 1931, in Hot Springs. He graduated high school in Siloam Springs, Arkansas; college at Emory University with an A.B. degree in 1952; and the University of Arkansas with a LL.B. degree in 1955.

In 1956, he became a partner with Rose, Meek, House, Barron, Nash and Williamson (Rose Law Firm) of Little Rock. He was later associated with several law firms, including Eichenbaum, Liles and Heister.

Haley was appointed by Governor Winthrop Rockefeller to serve as chairman of the State Penitentiary Board in 1967 (which became known as the State Board of Corrections in 1968). His time on the board expired on January 14, 1972, but he served a few days longer in absence of a new gubernatorial appointment.

Haley also served as chairman of the Arkansas Board of Law Examiners, and was a member of the Arkansas and American Bar Associations.

In 2003, Haley died at age seventy-two when the airplane he was piloting crashed while trying to land at a Boone County airport in northwest Arkansas.
