Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains an oral history interview with Perry V. Whitmore from December 2, 2008, as well as memoir of his military service.


Biographical Information

Perry Van Whitmore was born in DeQueen, Arkansas in 1925. He enlisted in the Army at the end of World War II and later completed his LLB degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1951. While at the University of Arkansas, Whitmore served in the Army ROTC and received a Commission before being recalled for active duty in August of 1951. He served in the Korean War for eighteen months with the 32nd Infantry Regiment beginning in June of 1952. After returning to Arkansas, Whitmore practiced law and was elected Circuit Judge of Pulaski and Perry Counties. He currently lives in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
