This collection contains miscellaneous material from the personal business of Dr. Norborn H. Jackson Jr. of Dardanelle, Ark., and from the family’s general merchandise and cotton farming business overseen by his son, Norborn Spencer Jackson. It includes advertisements, as well as directions and forms from government agencies regarding crop control, rationing, and taxes due.


Biographical Information

Norborn Herbert Jackson Sr., an immigrant to Arkansas from Alabama, graduated from the Arkansas Industrial University Medical School in 1881 and practiced medicine in Yell County and Conway County, Arkansas. His son, Norborn Herbert Jackson Jr., born June 26, 1874, also graduated from the medical school, in 1901, and practiced in Yell County.

In addition to the medical practice, the Jackson family owned farm land in the area, where they grew cotton. Norborn Spencer Jackson, the son of Norborn Jr., administered the family’s farm and a related general merchandise business in Dardanelle. The material in this collection relates to both Norborn H. Jackson Jr.’s personal business and the general merchandise business operated by his son Norborn Spencer.

Norborn Herbert Jackson Jr. died July 10, 1956, and his son Norborn Spencer died in May 1976. They are both buried in Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle, Ark.
